ADULT RACE DAY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General Questions

  1. What Are The Age Restrictions At The Cornwall Triathlon?
    • Minimum Age is 14 yrs Old.  14 & 15 Yrs Old are encouraged to enter the Try-A-Tri or Duathlon unless they demonstrate and excel at the sport.
  2. Do I Have To Get Body Marked At Packet Pick-Up?
    • Yes, Every racer must be body marked at packet pick-up.  Markings will be number on your right arm, hand, both thighs, race on your left calf and age on your right calf.
  3. If I Cannot Sign Up For The Event, May I Still Use The Course?
    • On race day the course is closed and restricted for those in the event only.
  4. Once Registration Closes Will You Form A Waiting List?
    • With the increase in participation in our event in 2009 some events may close early to allow athletes the proper amount of space required to compete comfortably.  Enter early to guarantee your spot.
  5. Can I Get A Refund Of My Entry Fee In Case Of Inclement Weather?
    • The race will be run rain or shine. Alterations to the course and/or start times may be required for the safety of all competitors. No refunds will be provided for a cancelled or altered event.

Swim Questions

  1. What Is The Water Temperature On Race Day?
    • Historically the water temperature has varied from 71-74 degrees on race day.
  2. Will Wetsuits Be Allowed?
    • Yes
  3. How Deep Is The Water?
    • It varies between 5 feet and 15 feet deep in parts of the 750 loop swim course.
  4. Is It A Beach Start Or An In Water Start?
    • Deep Water Start For All Triathlon Events
  5. Is The Water Safe?
    • Yes, This area of the river is sheltered from the current.
  6. What Happens If I Cannot Complete The Swim?
    • Failure to complete the swim will result in disqualification. Forward progress from any of the safety boats/kayaks/canoes will result in disqualification. If you are hesitant about the distance, please select a shorter distance event or the Duathlon.
  7. Will There Be Wave Starts?
    • Dependent on the number of starters in each event.  If wave starts are required, communication will be provided in the pre-event update one week prior to race day

Bike Questions

  1. What Type Of Bikes Are Allowed?
    • Bikes with the basic frame designed around the triangle.
  2. Can I Use A Mountain Bike?
    • Yes
  3. Can I Use A Recumbent Bike?
    • No
  4. Can I Use A Tandem Bike?
    • No
  5. Do I Need To Have My Bike Inspected?
    • No, but we do suggest having your biked tuned up within the 30 day window prior to the race.  For any last minute adjustments a bicycle mechanic will be available on race day.
  6. What Is The Bike Course Like?
    • Slight rolling with some technical sections.  You can watch the Youtube video of the course on the Adult web page under the Sunday menu selection.
  7. Can I Wear My MP3/Ipod During The Bike?
    • No, this will result in an automatic disqualification.
  8. Do I Need A Bike Helmet?
    • Yes, CSA approved.
  9. Is There Drafting?
    • No

Run Questions

  1. Where Is The Run?
    • Along the St. Lawrence River on the recreational path. The first Duathlon run will follow the bike route west along Montreal with the turnaround 200m before Marlborough Street.
  2. What Is The Run Course Like?
    • Generally flat with slight rollers.
  3. How Many Aid Stations Will There Be?
    • One every km offering water, sports drink and other goodies.
  4. Can I Wear My MP3/Ipod During The Run?
    • No, We ask that no music devices be used during the event to maintain clarity and safety with the 5 events progressing at the same time.  Wearing of an MP3/Ipod will result in disqualification.

Entry Questions

  1. I Am Unable To Race, Can I Get A Refund?
    • All entries are non-refundable.
  2. May I Change A Member Of My Relay Team?
    • Email the race director for consideration
  3. I Am Unable To Race, Can I Transfer My Entry?
    • Visit the Enter Now! page for the race transfer form.  All race transfers must be approved and completed 1 week before the event.
